The Basics

The colorful Alfama neighborhood is a highlight of any Lisbon sightseeing tour, and the maze-like quarter is best explored on a walking tour. For an even more unforgettable experience, ride the famous Tram 28 up the hill, zip around on a Segway tour, take in the views from afar on a Tagus River cruise, or attend an evening fado show with dinner.

Best experience we had in Lisbon!
I was a little apprehensive about this activity because I fall even while walking but Fred took his time with me and made sure that I was comfortable before we took off. The sightseeing was great and we got to go to places that would have been very difficult to walk. We enjoyed local treats and even shared some tapas and wine at the end. I would highly recommend this activity. Ask for Fred!

Alfama: the Birthplace of Fado 1.5 Hour Segway Tour
It was very interesting trip to Alfalma. The steep streets of Alfalma where not a problem. The tour gide Hugo was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of background information about Portugal's history. We enjoyed it very much

Alfama: the Birthplace of Fado 1.5 Hour Segway Tour
Peter was just great! We had SO much fun on this tour. We have been on several segway tours and his knowledge and professionalism was outstanding. If you haven't tried a segway tour I highly suggest you start with this one. It's a great way to see a lot of sites if you have limited ability to walk long distances. Be sure to wear flat shoes ladies. I am 68 years old and if I can do this, you can!

Foodie Tour of Alfama and Old Town Lisbon on a Segway
My husband and I were the only two on the afternoon trip with Yury. Yury was fantastic. He was very patient as he taught us how to ride the Segways and was an engaging and enthusiastic guide as he showed us some of the main sights of Lisbon. The Segways were great fun and easy to ride once we had got the hang of it. We sampled some Gina (cherry liquor) along the way and had a lovely selection of meats, olives, breads and cheese laid out for us in a nice room one we returned to base. We were very glad of the cold drink offered too as it had been a hot but interesting journey. Yury certainly lived up to the great reviews he has had already. He is so relaxed and friendly.

Yury Made The Tour Even More Special!

Foodie Tour of Alfama and Old Town Lisbon on a Segway
Yury, our tour guide, was excellent and beautiful to look at. I've done Segway tours in 7 cities in Europe and this one was one of the best. I was scheduled for the taste of Lisbon tour, but surprisingly, I was the only one booked for that tour. I was placed in another group without the taste part of the tour, but at the end Yury took me to what is now one of my favorite places to eat in Lisbon called Cerveja Canil. You must try the "My Balls" (Cheeseburger balls wrapped in bacon) and "Qiueijo Alvares Caral" (Crispy breaded cheese served with rosemary honey). DE-LISH!! And the lady bartender is super cool. Lisbon is all hills, this is the best way to see it quickly and save your poor feet for the return to your hotel.

Peter was really attentive and his assistance was very much appreciated. He was so informative and really knew the history of Lisbon & Portugal. He seemed to also enjoy giving tours which added to the experience.

When to Get There

Alfama is a lively place to visit at any time of the day or night, but the most atmospheric time to explore is around sunset, when the district’s many bars, cafés, and fado restaurants spring to life. It can be busy during the summer months, so get an early start to avoid the crowds.
