Rua Barbosa do Bocage, Sintra

The Basics

Visitors who experience Sintra on a guided tour from Lisbon benefit from a tour guide’s insight and included transportation. Popular attractions within this UNESCO World Heritage Site include the Museum of Modern Art, Monserrate Palace (Palacio de Monserrate), Pena National Palace, Castle of the Moors, and the beautiful Gothic architecture of the Quinta da Regaleira. While it’s possible to spend an entire day (or week) in this captivating town, travelers with limited time can also combine a visit to Sintra with stops at other nearby points of interest, such as Praia Grande, Cascais, Guincho Beach, or the wineries of Colares.

Sintra and Cascais Small-Group Day Trip from Lisbon
Must do if you are coming to Lisbon! Sintra is beautiful, visiting the Pena Palace does require a small uphill walk but it is definitely worth it. Pedro was the best tour guide, he was extremely knowledgeable and knew all the history down to the dates! He also had answers to my many questions. Highly recommend this tour and if you get Pedro you are very lucky!

Sintra Full Day Small-Group Tour: Let the Fairy Tale Begin
Luis was an amazing and exceptionally knowledgeable guide, we had an awesome time learning more about the history and culture of Portugal. The tour is very well paced with plenty of time to explore! This provides an excellent overview of what the Sintra-Cascais NP area has to offer.

Sintra and Cascais Small Group Tour from Lisbon
Our tour was amazing. The tour guide, Tania, was so friendly and knowledgeable, and she was an excellent driver. Sintra was beautiful with perfect weather, and the tour of the palace with the story of the artist king was so good. Be prepared for wind at the western most point.

Sintra and Cascais Private Tour with Pena Palace Ticket
Luis is a very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable guide. We leaned a lot about Portuguese history and the history behind Pena palace. Since this was a private tour we made some changes and he accommodated perfectly. We highly recommend Luis to be your guide.

Sintra and Cascais Small Group Tour from Lisbon
I have learned that small group tours are best for me and this one was the best I have experienced. Our tour guide (Tania) was excellent. She was very knowledgeable and also passionate about her country. She provided more than just the "canned " type of presentations but instead shared her love for her home. It was a beautiful day. Even on good tours you do it once and that is enough. If presented the opportunity again I would do this tour with Tania without hesitation. It was good that good.

When to Get There

For the best experience and minimal crowds, plan to visit early in the day, midweek, and outside of the summer high season. Classical music lovers gather in late spring and early summer, when the Sintra Festival takes place and concerts are hosted all over town.
