Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood and the most charming one, it’s considered the historic soul of Lisbon and its steep, cobblestoned lanes stand just as they were in medieval times. This area is best known for its fado houses and the great festivities of Lisbon which honors “Santo António” (St. Anthony) during the month of June, luring thousands of people into the streets. This neighbourhood resisted to the terrible earthquake of 1755 and this is one of the main reasons that contributed to the preservation of its authenticity. This charming area retains some of the Moorish atmosphere with its alleys, staircases and clothes drying on the windows.

Luis, our guide, provided a really interesting tour. A mix of history and current culture. We were a bit worried as it had been a long time since we had ridden a bike but with the help of Luis we soon built up confidence.

Wonderful electric bike tour of old Lisbon

The tour of Lisbon hills on an electric bicycle was an excellent experience. We were greeted by our tour guide, Peter, who made sure that the bikes provided were suitable for our particular needs and gave us a detailed explanation of the controls. We then progressed to a large clear area to practice on the bikes. Peter then led us on a tour of some of the spectacular buildings and vistas of Lisbon. Peter showed a wealth of local knowledge and provided an excellent description of the history and development of Lisbon and Portugal. The tour was taken at a pace that suited us and Peter was always considerate and thoughtful as we progressed through the older parts of Lisbon We would thoroughly recommend this tour.

We highly recommend to travel around Lisbon with Peter. The tour was extremly interesting and Peter took some extra time for us! His way of speaking was really gripping and also funny. He also later e-mailed us some insider tips. And I also loved trying out the E-Bike (especially uphill). We had a great time!
