Alfama, 1100 Lisbon, Portugal
Your tour begins in central Lisbon. Greet your private guide, absorb panoramic city vistas, and receive an overview of Lisbon’s thriving culinary scene.

Over the course of your tour, sample foods typical of Portuguese cuisine: awaken your taste buds with alheira, a Portuguese sausage traditionally made with veal or duck, and then sample moelas (gizzards) and locally produced beer.

The next samples come in the form of bifana, a sandwich filled with spicy, slow-cooked pork, and Portuguese snails cooked according to an age-old recipe. Proceed to the oldest Ginjinha shop in the city to try liquor made from sour cherries, and then delight in local cheese, grilled sardines, and pastel de bacalhau (cod croquettes).

Throughout the tour, your guide provides commentary that links Portuguese culture with its cuisine, and explains the origin of traditional dishes. Your final stop is in the historic Alfama district, where you take a seat on a terrace to eat the ultimate sweet treat, a pastel de nata.

Ok tour..

I was mildly impressed with this tour. Tour guide’s English wasn’t great and three of the places we went to were closed. One would think that would be checked before hand.

We had such a blast hanging out with John. We ate. We laughed. We explored streets of Lisbon that we absolutely never would’ve found on our own. It felt like we were hanging out with a friend, and it was our best tour of our two-week vacation.

The guide expertly wove the various foods and locations with local history and retail shops to make a very interesting outing! Definitely found areas we never would have if not for this tour. Food choices were very good with generous portions. If you are looking for an excellent food tour this is the one to choose! Highly recommend!

Perfect Introduction

We booked this for the same day we flew into Lisbon. We were jet lagged but it was a great way to get introduced to the city's food. Helped us decide what we wanted to focus on and what we could check the box that we tried and move on. Mariana was able to give us histories of the food and the city that really added to the enjoyment of the tastings. This is absolutely a must do!

Great intro to Portuguese food

This was a private food tour with a local named Carolina. Carolina is a very personable and sincere guide. She was very patient with us, especially since my mom is a slow walker. We enjoyed the food on our tour. I would suggest doing this tour on your first day in Lisbon because it is a good introduction to Portuguese food. We started at Bairro Alto and ended up in Alfama so brace yourself for a lot of walking. The hardest part was getting to the meeting point because it was at a high point (with a good view), then it was downhill walking afterwards (except when you get to Alfama when you have to climb up a long set of stairs). We went to 4 different restaurants plus a stop to try Ginja. Don't eat a large meal before this as you will be very full at the end.
