After you meet your guide at your central Lisbon hotel, begin your small-group tour to Évora with a drive east across the Vasco da Gama Bridge. After crossing the the Tagus River spend the next 1.5 hours gazing across the beautiful Alentejo region. Hear about the cork and olive trees, vineyards and produce that populate this serene countryside.

Arrive in the city of Évora and discover its abundance of culture, heritage and history formed by centuries of influence. Learn why Évora became a UNESCO World Heritage-listed town as you step into the St Francis, a well preserved church built in Gothic-Manueline style. Inside wander to the Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos), built in the 16th century, which displays human skulls and bones upon its walls.

Afterwards, explore the Roman Temple’s remnants which date back to the 1st century and visit the gardens around the palace of King Manuel where explorer Vasco da Gama was commanded to find a route to India. Next, ogle the Cathedral of Évora (Sé de Évora) constructed between late 13th and early 14th centuries. Then, promenade along charming streets and under Gothic arches in Évora’s main Giraldo Square (Praça do Giraldo).

Take a break from your guided tour and explore the historical streets on your own. Grab lunch at a place of your choice (own expense) and spend time ducking into a few souvenir shops. Then, rendezvous with your guide and head to a delicious olive oil tasting at a specialist shop. Relish samples of five olive oil flavors while gaining insight into the architecture and history of the city.

Finally, hop aboard your vehicle and continue to Almendres Cromlech, one of Europe’s largest stone complexes. Arrive and see an astounding structure of menhirs (huge stone monoliths positioned upright) put here about 7000 years ago. Afterwards, return to Lisbon at a choice of two centrally located drop off points; Marquês de Pombal or Rossio.

Great day out to Evora. Carlos, our guide, was very informative regarding the sites that we visited. He also had a great sense of humour which made the day outstanding.

loved this trip...

We had a great trip, and I highly recommend it. There were just two of us on the trip that day, so we were able to have plenty of free time while in Evora. We had lunch with our guide at a local place. Our guide enthusiastically shared so much info with us about each of the places we visited. A great way to see a lot in a day, and get off the beaten track.

Would have been good

This tour would have been okay however we did not like our tour guide, we found him to be very rude. We were also unimpressed with the olive oil tasting, it was in a store in the basement of a building. The best part of this day was when we broke off from the group and had free time, however we did not find Évora to be what we expected. Would not recommend this to others, especially if you are short for time.

Fabulous tour guides

Both of our guides Paulo and Celso were excellent. There were many things to see including the beach where McNamara rode the largest wave. The guides were patient with my sprained ankle and went out of their way to help. Although the sites of Obidos and Nazare were awesome, with Obidos being very crowded, the guides were the real prize. This private tour was a bargain.

Evora Day Trip

We had a superb day trip from Lisbon to Evora. It is an amazing city and our guide did a great job. He was knowledgable about all aspects of the trip, and made sure we saw all the important sites in Evora. Be sure to give him the credit he deserves. He had to do the tour both is English and is Spanish and he did an excellent job. We had a very nice respite with some olive oil tasting, and the restaurant he recommended for lunch was great. This is a must see city in Portugal.

Excellent Day Trip to Evora

My wife and I were looking for something different to do outside of Lisbon and chose to do this day trip. We'd recommend this trip. Evora is a lovely little town with excellent Roman ruins in the city center, with several churches (including the church of the bones) to visit. The olive oil testing was good and lunch was provided as well. The guide showed up on-time in a clean and spacious van & was very attentive. You do get about an hour and a half on your own to explore the city before leaving. We had the chance to do a wine tasting, were we brought back several bottles of wine.

Our tour guide Ricardo was the bomb...

Our tour guide Ricardo was the bomb! He was awesome by being accommodating and informative throughout the tour experience. My friend and I were traveling from Ireland and made a mistake in our booking of accommodation. Therefore, we had our luggage and was frantically searching for a place to store our luggage so we don't have it for the tour. Ricardo was so accommodating, he allowed us to leave it in the minivan when he sensed our distress. So happened, my friend and I were the only ones on the tour that day, so it felt like a private tour. We started the experience by getting picked up in one of the best-airconditioned vans that we experienced while traveling in Europe. When we got to Evora, we got to sample different olive oils. My friend and I bought some back. After, we visited iconic monuments such as the Temple of Diana. Also, Ricardo explained the history of the cork trees and the cork making process. Evora is a small and beautiful town. Ricardo gave us plenty of free time to go shopping in the town. I would recommend you save some euros and buy cork products in Lisbon. It is cheaper in price while having the same quality. Overall this was a wonderful tour of the beautiful countryside of Portugal.
